At Coding Girls, we have often seen this beginner’s struggle, so we have come up with the idea of building a companion guide that can help everybody find their way through the Drupal realm.

Following up on what happened with BoFs at DrupalCon Vienna here is another round of infrastructure exchange between our engineering team from the DA and other folks being involved in providing infrastructure for the Drupal community. While this exchange is open in general the target group are clearly people with an engineering record on serving infrastructure either within the community or it's companies.
Scope is about sharing experience with certain technologies, integrating present central and decentralized infrastructures, envisioning future landscape of community services, understanding different privacy and law contexts, finding synergy effects and lean ways of contribution/collaboration and most important establishing further meetups and communications. The Drupal.org panel provides an update on the last six months of work by the Drupal Association engineering team to improve the tools and processes that support the Drupal project.
For me, the community is the best thing about Drupal.
With a community, we are not alone in a web world.
We have an international friend, mentors, colleagues for work.
We are visiting Drupal events and meet people there. We grow up and develop ourselves to be in community.
Use cases for Drupal are changing and so are criteria for selecting a web development platform. This is a challenge for the community as well as individuals and companies that use Drupal. We can learn a lot by looking at the Drupal experience from different perspectives and thinking about the personas of people who interact with Drupal.

Remote communications are essentials to Open Source communities and have been traditionally the strongholds of free implementations of solutions like mailling lists, IRC and XMPP. But with the rise of HTTP based chat protocols we seen the proprietary empire striking back and for the sake of ease of use and accessibility we gave up the freedom of our communication backbones. For convenient upbringing we even hooked up our beloved Open Source communities with freemium plans from SaaS providers that don't support our communities and rather do bar gaining on basic features like chat history.
With Rocket.Chat there is an actual Open Source implementation of a HTTP chat solution that keeps the convenience while still empowering the freedom. In collaboration with the Debian/Ubuntu community they even made upbringing of self hosted instances a breeze and reconquered some abandoned strongholds back in companies and communities. Within the Drupal galaxy we started loving Rocket.Chat as an upstream that accepts changes and patches and also let us built DrupalChat as central Rocket.Chat instance for our community.

The University of Edinburgh, like many other Higher Education institutes, has a very large web estate and very specific web needs.
Being locked into a vender solution for years gave the staff and students very little flexibility. To meet their ever growing needs, the university took the opportunity to look at the open source web platforms.
