Speaker agreement
If you have been a speaker on DrupaCon you might know what this agreement is all about. But please note that Drupal Europe is not a DrupalCon and therefore we have slight differences.
The Speaker Agreement outlines the expected responsibilities of Drupal Europe speakers. Please read through the items listed below, and click on 'Agree' when submitting your session.
Compensation
I understand that Drupal Europe provides one (1) complimentary ticket per session. Tickets purchased before session acceptance will be refunded for accepted speakers. It is my responsibility to register in advance of arriving at Drupal Europe. I understand that if I am accepted as a speaker and my speaking opportunity is cancelled for any reason, I will receive as full and exclusive damages the cost of one Drupal Europe session ticket, and no other expenses I may have incurred in planning for or travelling to Drupal Europe.
Speaker profiles
I will fill out my user profile, including full name and a photo, with the understanding that my session may not display properly if this information is not provided in time for the schedule.
Session integrity
Sessions are selected based on a combination of content, speaker experience and description. If a session was selected, it was selected as it was submitted, and any changes to the content or speaker team need to be approved by the program team. Please note, the program team and Drupal e. V. (the legal entity behind Drupal Europe) staff reserve the right to remove a session at their own discretion, including but not limited to if dramatic changes are made to the session’s content or speaker team.
Session preparation
I understand that speaking at Drupal Europe is both a great honor and responsibility. If I am unable to devote the time and energy to this effort, I will notify the Drupal Europe planning team so that my session can be replaced.
I understand that if I am participating on a panel that I am expected to communicate with the other speakers on my session before the event. I understand that if I am delivering a group or solo presentation, I am expected to spend a significant amount of time preparing for my session before the event.
To aid in schedule planning, I will also communicate any of the following with my track chair:
- Schedule conflicts
- Session format (panel, Q+A, etc…)
- Technical requirements/requests
- Changes to my speaker lineup
Obtaining consent
I understand that I am responsible for obtaining any required consents, permissions, and clearances to display or otherwise use any materials (both visual and audio) that I incorporate in my session.
Promoted content
I understand that my session is for information sharing purposes only and that it is not a marketing opportunity. I agree that I will not use my session to promote any company, brand, or product.
Staying on topic and on time
I understand that staying focused on the topic outlined in the title and description of my session is extremely important. During my session, I pledge to stay focused on the topic at hand and make sure that the information presented adheres to the difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) designated for my session.
Code of conduct
Drupal Europe is an event for professionals to celebrate, learn, and contribute to Drupal. Speakers are expected to behave in accordance with professional standards, the Code of conduct, applicable laws, and to the extent not contrary to the above, their respective employer's policies governing appropriate workplace behavior.
Anyone who represents the project, officially, informally, or otherwise, is a leader in our community. The conduct of speakers especially reflects on our project, because speakers have been granted the opportunity to amplify their message. Leadership is not an award, right or title; it is a privilege, a responsibility, and a mandate. As leaders, speakers must represent the best version of the Drupal community in what they say and do.
Please use humor judiciously. We appreciate humor as a way to enliven the speech, however, we ask that you demonstrate sensitivity to the diversity of our members, especially in the areas of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, and religion.
Speakers should not use sexual language, images, activities, or other material at the event that could constitute harassment in their talks. In regards to sexual imagery, at a minimum, no images containing nudity or expressions of sexual relationships that might be deemed inappropriate for a business environment should be used. In addition, please consider local societal customs of the hosting country when deciding what is deemed appropriate for a business environment.
Harassment includes but is not limited to the use of abusive, offensive or degrading language, intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, sexual imagery and unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors.
I understand that my slides and on-stage remarks must abide by the Code of conduct for this conference. I understand that my slides may be reviewed ahead of time, and that I may need to modify my presentation if it does not adhere with the Code of Conduct. I also understand that if, while I am presenting, I fail to abide by the spirit of the Code of conduct, my session recording can be removed.
Unacceptable behavior
The Drupal Europe organizers have a zero-tolerance policy for unacceptable behavior, which is listed in the Code of Conduct. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a speaker engages in unacceptable behavior, the Drupal Europe staff or its designated representatives may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including removal of your session and revoking your conference ticket.
If a speaker violates the speaker agreement, the Drupal Europe staff or its designated representatives will take appropriate action such as, but not limited to:
- Warn the speaker of their misconduct
- End a talk early
- Not publish or un-publish the content and recording
- Revoke the speaker’s conference ticket without refund
Session recording
I have read the Media Policy and understand that my session will be recorded and made publicly available following the conference.
Legal terms from our lawyer
Applicable law and venue
All disputes regarding the construction, interpretation and our obligations under this agreement will be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, notwithstanding any of that country's laws to the contrary, regardless of the location of the speaking engagement. The venue and jurisdiction for the resolution of any such disputes will be Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany.
Indemnification
I will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Drupal e. V., its officers, employees, trustees, agents and representatives from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, liabilities, expenses, losses of every nature and kind, including but not limited to attorney's fees and costs, arising directly or indirectly in connection with my performance or activities under this speaking engagement, whether the same arises before, during or after completion of or expiration of this agreement, except from damage, loss or injury resulting from Drupal e. V.'s sole negligence or willful misconduct.
